Jamie Criss

Jamie’s first big writing accomplishment came in fourth grade when she wrote a fiction piece on a pioneer family which out-shined the rest of her classmates. Her success in writing didn’t escalate from there; growing up in public school she was frequently chastised for not staying within the confines of the rigid curriculum. When her father handed her Jack Kerouac’s Satori in Paris at the age of twenty-one, her literary world exploded. From then on Jamie started to write the way she felt, in whatever form that took. She continued to develop her writing skills and discover influential authors such as John Steinbeck, Sylvia Plath, Tennessee Williams and Allen Ginsberg while living in Europe and throughout college during the dark and light moments of life. Her conversational poems are meditative and often simple, doing her best to speak truths from the working class post-graduate demographic of which she belongs. Drawing inspiration from the life around her while maintaining a melancholic introspection, her style continues to evoke images in the reader and remain a constant evolution for her as the writer. Her favorite word is and.
